A brand spankin’ New Year is upon us, and with the arrival of 2015, it’s time to check back in with the “Zombie Apocalypse” and see what’s up, o’ Gentle Visitors. Don’t want those flesh-eating goons sneaking up on us now do we? 😉 This time out, it’s a return to Taipei with the sequel to writer/director Joe Chien’s 2012 “Zombie 108”, a little slice of Zombie storytelling titled “Zombie Fight Club”.
The synopsis goes like this: “It’s the end of the century, in the slums of Taipei in a building riddled with crime. As the Zombie Apocalypse begins, suddenly everyone in the building has begun to turn into zombies. After Jenny’s boyfriend is killed in a zombie attack, she faces the challenge of surviving in the face of adversity. In order to stay alive she struggles with lone SWAT officer Andy to flee the danger. The originally kind and warm-hearted chemistry teacher, after the chaos has broken out, becomes the zombie leader and has transformed into a cruel, vicious and selfish tyrant. His violent henchmen match prisoners against zombies in a malicious killing game, the good side of humanity has seemingly all but vanished. Now that all order is lost, how will humans create a new century?”
I’ve watched the original “Zombie 108”…. and could have sworn I did a review for it, but the Litterbox tells me it’s nowhere to be found. Hmmmm? Maybe now that I’m a crazy old Cat Lady of 42 I’m just having one of those “senior moments” I’ve heard tell of. Who knows? But, by jiminy… I’m reviewing this one, so if you wanna hear the details, then just “Read On” and find out how it all went down.
Psst! This way for more!
Well, for our next foray into crazy horror films, we go from Halloween witches back to a perennial favorite here at the ol’ Litterbox… the zombie… with a look at the Region 2 UK release of “Zombeavers”. Ummmm?… Zombie beavers? Nope… your favorite Catgirl kids you not. 😉
Our synopsis goes like this here: “A group of college sorority girls having a “girls only” weekend together at a rural riverside cabin are menaced by a swarm of deadly zombie beavers created by an accidental spill of toxic waste. A weekend of sex and debauchery soon turns gruesome as the undead beavers close in on the girls and their party-crashing boyfriends. Isolated and unable to escape, the kids are soon fighting for their lives in a desperate attempt to fend off the hoard of crazed mutant beavers that attack them in and around their cabin.”
Yep. You’d be right in betting this one doesn’t set the bar tooooo high, plot wise. Sounds pretty much like a quick exploitative story with crude trashy humor, nudity, very little real coherent plot, and probably more bad “beaver” jokes than any film truly needs. So… not expecting greatness, let’s take a peek at the result and see if “Zombeavers” sinks or swims, shall we? At least I can tell my sweetie it’s an English language film…. 😉

It’s the “End of the World As We Know It” Movie Fest Month here at the ol’ Litterbox this April and I thought I’d start things out with our old friends, the Zombies and a look at the “Zombie Apocalypse”, Israeli style, with the recent Region 1 DVD for “Cannon Fodder” aka “Battle of the Undead”. Yep… all the fun of the seemingly endless Middle East bickering between Arab and Jew…. but now with 100% more flesh eating zombie action!! Amazingly thought provoking film-making with deep sociopolitical messages about the futility of violence in solving the divide between disparate cultures at conflict? Naaawww… not if we’re lucky… 😉
Our synopsis is: “Doron, an Israeli military security operative, is forced by a superior to take on one last mission before retiring from the endless killing between Israeli soldiers and Arab terrorists. He is tasked to lead a commando team and covertly go into Lebanon to capture a top member of the Hezbollah terrorist organization. But not all is as it seems, and Doron soon discovers that there is a far greater threat to Israel at hand than Hezbollah – the dead are rising. After the horrifying Battle of the Undead, the Middle East will never be the same! “
Well “army guys versus monsters” is always a pretty safe bet for an evening of movie fun… at least for this wee lady, so there’s a good chance I’ll be liking this one. Wanna find out if you’d like it too? Then, by goodness, you know what comes next…. 😉

Yep… November has continued to chug along at it’s busy, busy pace keeping me occupied with responsibilities but… every once in a while… I still do manage to shake all of those things and indulge in some brain rotting movie fun to share with you all. This time out, I’ve an odd little bit of zombie apocalypse fun… Malay style. “KL Zombi”, an honest to goodness Malaysian Zombie film. 🙂
Our synopsis… well here it goes… “KL Zombie is a story of five friends who each have their own dreams and hopes of a better life in the big city. But those lofty ambitions come to a screeching halt when a deadly virus outbreak turns its inhabitants into zombies. Oblivious and bumbling pizza delivery boy/hero Nipis has to put his life on the line in order to save himself and his friends from being infected by the virus.”
I’ve had this disc for a few weeks now, but it’s taken a bit for me to get around to being able to give it a proper watch. Thankfully, with Thanksgiving a few days away, Carolyn and I finally found the time for a proper “Movie Nite” snuggle on Sunday…. and some brain eating zombies (Just gotta have those…. 😉 ). So just how was the resulting evening entertainment wise? Guess all you curious Gentle Visitors will have to “Read On” to find out… 🙂

Yep… Father’s Day is coming up, and recent events have only reminded this wee Catgirl that no matter what…. come blizzards… hurricanes… killer bees… alien invasion… the “heartbreak of psoriasis”… or even the dreaded “Zombie Apocalypse”… my Dad will always love “his little girl” and always have my back no matter what shit finally decides to hit the fan. Yep… my Dad is officially my Hero… 🙂
I think that’s the way every daughter feels about her Dad… and I’d like to think all we daughters occupy that special place in their heart that would make them risk absolutely anything for us. So it’s fitting I suppose to share this lil’ bit of Youtube goodness that I ran across the other day with you Gentle Visitors in order to celebrate the Holiday in proper “Litterbox” style, one of the finalists in the 2013 Australian “Tropfest” short film festival, “Cargo”. Try to watch it and not cry… this wee Catgirl dares you… sniff, sniff!!
“Sexy Killer”….. This one actually got mentioned to me some while ago as a quirky zombie comedy film I should definitely check out, but my inquisitive, insatiable quest for a decent source of weird Spanish films has so far failed to reward me with a reliable source directly out of Spain…. Luckily for me the Region 2 UK release for this one has remedied that lil’ problem.
The synopsis for it reads: “At an exclusive university dead bodies are turning up with alarming frequency, all believed to be victims of the notorious Campus Killer. The police are stumped as to who the killer might be and, of course, nobody suspects innocent looking med student Barbara. A superficial fashion queen whose childhood dream was to grow up to become the living embodiment of her favorite doll, Cindy Superstar, all Barbara needs now is to find herself a real-life equivalent of Cindy’s plastic partner, Glenn. But behind the mask of her perfectly applied make-up is a deadly cross between Paris Hilton and American Psycho’s Patrick Bateman, a female serial killer for whom ruthlessly slaughtering people isn’t so much a question of why as one of why not?
Barbara’s grisly trail of murder fortuitously leads her into the arms of Tomas, a fellow student assigned to the campus morgue who is experimenting with a machine designed to translate thoughts and brainwaves into images. What he later discovers, though, is that with a little tinkering (and the addition of a healthy dose of Ecstasy to his subjects) the machine is able to reanimate the dead. Not surprisingly, this proves to be bad news for Barbara as Tomas begins reviving the Campus Killer’s victims in the hope that at least one of them will be able to identify their murderer. Of course, what he hadn’t bargained for was their insatiable hunger for both revenge and for human flesh. Soon, Tomas finds himself the innocent bystander in a bloody and explosive serial killer versus zombies showdown.”
Hmmm… now this one certainly sounds downright goofy. (And you know how Neko sooo likes goofy!!) So forgoing my usual popcorn and wine coolers, we opt for a movie night of spicy nachos and sangria, hoping the movie fairies will bless Carolyn and I with a delightfully grisly laugh fest to remember!! Think you might just like it too? Then you better “Read On” and find out more!
