April is here (and quickly slipping away from me, it seems…) and it’s time to check back with the Zombie Apocalypse… just to see if it’s creeping up on us or not, mind you… with a look at the recent Region 2 UK release of the Spanish Zombie Apocalypse thriller “[REC] 4: Apocalypse”.
The synopsis reads “Barcelona TV reporter, Angela Vidal, wakes up in a high-security quarantine facility aboard a ship at sea, sole survivor and witness to the horrific events inside the apartment building of the first film. She seems to have only spotty memories of what happened at the end of her ordeal there. But does she secretly remember what happened to her? Is she carrying the virus? Distrust spreads through the freighter while new, even more deadly forms of evil spread even faster among the researchers and crew. Soon that Evil is loose again, but will she survive this new assault or become one of its twisted victims?”
I’ve enjoyed this franchise so far, so it’s nice to get another offering to sate this zombie fan’s need for a little gory fun in the world of the Zombie Apocalypse now that “The Walking Dead” is on its hiatus till fall. Sure… sure.. there’s “IZombie”, but that’s just toooo much of a comedy. Neko wants scary gross zombie fun… 😉
So… will I get it with this one? All signs look promising… so if you wanna know if it’s a gore fest that ought to show up in your DVD player anytime soon, just “Read On” and let a certain crazy movie obsessed Catgirl tell you all about it. 😉
Psst! This way for more!
So… are you ready for some no-holds-barred hand-to-hand in your face Martial Arts action? This wee Catgirl most certainly is, and luckily for me Indonesia is ready to answer my needs with “The Raid 2: Berandal”, the sequel to the surprisingly brutal and well-made original film by director Gareth Evans and again starring the absolutely amazing Iko Uwais in the role of young undercover policeman Rama. More bone-crunching pain… more wild and crazy fight scenes… oodles and oodles of brutal martial art mayhem… yep this lady is ready…. Are you?
Our synopsis goes like this: “Following immediately after the events of “The Raid: Redemption”, Rama (Iko Uwais) is forced to reinvent himself as an undercover cop in order to provide protection for his wife and child. Working for the anti-corruption task-force led by the one person he can trust, Bunawar, he is given a mission to engage himself as an enforcer for a local mob boss, Bangun. Finding a way in through Bangun’s son Uco, Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with police force corruption. All the while, he harbors a dangerous and personal vendetta for revenge and justice that threatens to consume him- and bring both this mission and the organized crime syndicates crashing down.”
Hands down, “The Raid” is probably one of the best Action films ever filmed… and definitely one of Indonesia’s most impressive movies ever released, so when a sequel was announced, your Favorite Catgirl put it right to the top of her list of “Must Have” DVD’s… and now it’s here. Wanna know if it’s a winner as well? Then what the heck are you waiting for? 😉
Psst! This way for more!
Time to finish the eerie journey your Favorite Catgirl took watching the Spanish horror goodie “La Herencia Valdemar” by taking a look at it’s recent sequel, “La Sombra Prohibida” aka “The Forbidden Shadow”. Lots of evil goings on… forbidden lore… twisted freaky monsters… the last film appearance of the great Paul Naschy.. and Cthulhu too!! Yep. It’s a “no brainer”… Neko is sooo there.
Our synopsis? It goes like this: “The disappearance of Luisa Llorente and the Curse of the Valdemars have become the events that will cause the fates of an eclectic group of people to cross and become entangled with the goals of a shadowy Cult of fanatics who seek to unleash on Earth that “Which Sleeps Eternal”… Cthulhu, most evil of the Great Old Ones. At last all will be revealed as the fragile veil between Reality and “the Beyond” is torn asunder by foolish Mortals. Some will live… some will die… when they are forced to look upon “The Forbidden Shadow”.
By now, you are probably wanting to get on with it and see if the wait for this one is worth it… or… as can sometimes happen, they blow it badly and fail utterly to finish the story properly. That’s happened before.. and it’ll happen again. Neko’s seen her share of movie catastrophes… but, please let’s not be the case this time!! Still… as always, the truth is in the watching, so let’s get on with it then… “Read On”!!
