Greetings again from this wee Movie Lovin’ Catgirl’s Icebox… errrrr…. I mean Litterbox. Yep. Winter has come along and dumped a veritable butt-load of ice all across the landscape hereabouts the last couple of days, and while Winter is not usually this lady’s ally the recent deep freeze has resulted in practically everything coming to a complete halt and for once that’s a good thing. A very good thing.
With the roads closed to traffic, yours truly has been blissfully off from work the last two days, trapped in our little apartment…. just me, my sweetie, and our lil kitty Ting-Ting. Two whole entire days together with no interruptions…. no visitors…. and absolutely nothing to do but snuggle, cuddle, and laze about while we enjoy the quality “Us” time. No power failures…. plenty of warmth and food and all the good things this lady’s needed badly. Yay!!! Thank you Winter….. 🙂
The Ice Storm is tapering off this afternoon, and it looks like we’re going to get the perfect window to make our way down to Sandra’s for the Holiday, probably leaving early tomorrow. I’m thinking we won’t be back til Friday afternoon at the earliest. (If my new found ally Old Man Winter doesn’t decide to blast us with enough bizzardy stuff to “force” us to stay with the family a wee bit longer that is….. 😉 )
But before we go, there’s just enough time to wish all our friends, family, and all of my Gentle Visitors here at the Litterbox our warmest Holiday wishes and I hope you have a wonderful time this most festive of seasons…. “Merry Christmas and Meow, Meow till next time!!”
Another week closer to Christmas… and time for yet another Review. This time out I had planned to look at the second of the “Thanksgiving Night Movie Fest” films we saw over the holiday, but… then this one ended up in my DVD player one cold snowy evening and just plain blew that idea away. So instead… it’s off to rainy Spain for a look at director Oriol Paulo’s new suspense/ thriller “El Cuerpo” aka “The Body”.
Our synopsis goes as follows: “El Cuerpo” brings a heady mix of classic film noir, blood-chilling horror and high suspense, as the film follows a worn out veteran police detective as he begins an investigation of a mysterious break-in at the city morgue, the accidental hit-and-run of a guard, and searches for a corpse that has gone missing one dark and stormy night. Why has the corpse disappeared? Was the woman murdered? Was her distraught husband behind it all? Or is there some other sinister plot behind the disappearance of the body?”
Less of a horror film than my usual pick for movie fun, “El Cuerpo” might be a Hitchcock-style murder mystery, but the Trailer certainly hints that there’s much more going on throughout than in the usual “whodunit”. A whole lot more… Yep, I suspected this one might just be this wee kitty’s idea of cinema fun with a heapin’ helping of goosebumps thrown in for good measure. Now that a good English subtitled Region 2 version has shown up in the UK it’s only natural to give it a try. Wanna hear those details? Then you know exactly what you have to do, o’ Gentle Visitor…. 😉
Psst! This way for more!
Well… I know I’ve fallen behind yet again but here we finally are once more with another Review… this time, with a peek at one of the two films we saw at Sandra’s over Thanksgiving with the family. Yes.. yes… it seems now that I’m soooo darn loved and accepted by those wonderful folks that now they too will even put up with my terrible, terrible tastes in movies just like my sweetie. 😉
So what, pray tell, did I inflict upon them for our “Family Thanksgiving Movie Fest 2013”? Why the recently released Irish Monster Movie “Grabbers”….
The synopsis? How’s this: “On small, remote Erin Island, an idyllic fishing village off the coast of Ireland, charming but somewhat work-shy Guarda officer Ciaran O’Shea, is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan, a straight-laced no-nonsense by-the-book young female officer who has arrived from the mainland for a temporary two week duty posting. Not that there is much for them to do, aside from dealing with the occasional drunk, and that’s usually O’Shea himself. But strange doings are afoot: first the crew of a fishing boat disappears, then whales start appearing dead on the shore, and finally local lobster man catches a strange tentacled sea beastie in one of his traps. Soon it becomes clear to O’Shea and Nolan that there’s something big out there, and that it’s hungry. It’s time to rally the villagers, arm the troops…and head to the pub.”
Sounds a wee bit like “Tremors”, eh? Oh yeah… well big honking tentacle beasties worked in that one so I suppose it’s only fair to see if adding some drunken Irishmen to the plot works even better. I was certainly game, and I knew my new “nephew”, Adam would be happy with some crazy monster fun. Heck… my sweetheart Carolyn would just be glad for a movie where they speak English… even if it’s with an accent. 😉
Wanna find out how it all plays out? Then just kick back and “Read On” for all the details!
Psst! This way for more!
Yep… the frigid temperatures… the short days… the slippery icy sidewalks… and all the mounds of flaky snow have made it obvious. Winter is here to stay in my neck of the woods… at least for the next few months. Sigh…. winter just sucks… 😦
This wee Catgirl is sooooo not a fan of the cold wintery wonderland as all my Gentle Visitors know, so with a day off from work, nobody to bother me, and all that nasty chilly white stuff outside it wasn’t hard to find the time at last to do some stuff here at the Litterbox. Maybe even another review if I get the chance….
So, if you Gentle Visitors are the least bit curious about this silly lady’s mostly dull and routine “personal life” and have wondered just exactly what I’ve been up to since Halloween, then I suppose you’ll take me up on my invitation to “Read On” and find out all my boring little secrets. 😉
Psst! This way for more!
