Greetings all you Gentle Visitors to the ol’ Litterbox! Halloween swiftly approaches and even though I’ve made 2013 “Haunted House” month here at the blog, our pesky flesh hungry friends, the Zombies, want in on the fun too… and who is this lil’ Catgirl to tell them to shoo away?
Yep… my favorite TV show “The Walking Dead” is back for a new season, and so it only seemed right to spring a little “Nekolicious Halloween 2013 Zombie Film Festival” of my own for all you Litterbox regulars comprised of some of the best Youtube short films that I’ve found and enjoyed in my many far flung Internet wanderings. Yep…. so it’s time to pop the popcorn, chill your favorite beverages, fortify yourself with oodles of tasty snacks and watch the fun. Just remember…. observe caution, keep all your appendages safely away from the “living impaired”, and heed all the warnings of the Civil Authorities as we head off for our video tour of the Zombie Apocalypse.
The Zombie Apocalypse…. Everybody’s got their own ideas as to just how it’s gonna happen. Thankfully, the recent generation of high tech handheld video cameras and desktop video editing software can make just about anybody into their own version of George Romero these days. It’s amazing really just how many incredibly polished looking little mini-films there are out there, lumbering along, each with it’s own flavor, it’s own style… some bad… some good…. some even amazingly good just waiting to be discovered. Many are just the sort of things real fans of the genre would like, done with an energy and enthusiasm that major studios only wish they could manage to capture, all at a fraction of the budget…. when they even have a budget. So… for a little chage of pace, let’s celbrate some of these spunky lil’ efforts that, like the zombies they display, just won’t die…. 😉
First up… we’ve got 2012’s multiple award winning short “2 Hours”….
Next up, from the land down under, a gruesome little slice of the Zombie Holocaust, the short film “Perished”…. one man, one locked shed, no easy way out.
Next for those of you that think it’ll all be bleak and miserable…. a lighter slice of survival in the aftermath from New Zealand… “Holdout”.
From the UK, here’s “Prey”, pretty graphically demonstrating just why “fast zombies” are the last thing you’d want in a “real” Zombie Apocalypse….
And… last but definitely not least… for those of you who might have missed it waaaay back on Father’s Day when I linked it in, here’s this wee Catgirl’s favorite Zombie short film, the achingly sad and touching short “Cargo”, 2013 finalist at Australia’s Tropfest.
Hopefully these few examples…. just the tip of the iceberg, I can assure you… will whet your appetite to search out more such hidden lil gems, and… like a certain zombie loving lady of the feline inclination… be able to sate your need for Zombie fun.
