Continuing my recent theme of “romantic movies” here at the ol’ Litterbox, it’s time for a look at the second film in my recent “double feature movie nite” with my sweetie, the Bollywood Action/ Romance mash-up “Commando: A One Man Army”. What? You say Kick-boxing isn’t a major plot element in your romantic movies? Hmmmm?.. Maybe that explained my sweet Carolyn’s somewhat bemused smile when this one hit the DVD player… Hehehe!!
Our synopsis goes like this: “Caught on Chinese territory after an accidental helicopter crash and branded a spy, Commando Karanveer Dogra (Vidyut Jammwal) is disowned by his country because a politician reasons that siding with Karanveer would be damaging to the Indo-Chinese relations. After spending a brutal year in imprisonment Karanveer escapes and crosses the border trying to get to his base Pathankot. En-route he bumps into damsel-in-distress, Simrit (Pooja Chopra), on the run from local gangster Amrit Kanwal aka AK74 (Jaideep Ahlawat) with political aspirations who wants to marry her to satisfy his unwholesome lust for both political power and Simrit’s undeniable beauty. Despite his desire to stay uninvolved, Karan finds himself the only one capable of fighting AK47’s gang on behalf of both Simrit and the people of her province…. and protecting both is the inescapable duty and mission of a commando.”
Oooohhh! Well… Neko does like her kickboxing…. and it’s always fun to see the whole “Rambo” story through yet another “cultural filter”. Alright… alright, sign me up. Sigh… If only Hindi DVD’s weren’t so crazy cheap…. 😉
Wanna hear if this odd little slice of Bollywood flavored action might also be something you can’t pass up? Then what are we waiting for? Let’s “Read On”…!!
Well… time for another review, and this time out it’s for the recent 2013 US adaption of the romantic fantasy novel “Beautiful Creatures”. What? An English language film? Yep… my sweet Carolyn got to pick one for a change, and this tale of witches, curses, and romance was her way of trying to find that illusive movie that would please both our movie watchin’ styles. Awwww!! She’s such a sweetheart… 😉
Quick synopsis? Gotcha covered… 😉 “In Gatlin, South Carolina, Ethan Wate longs to escape his boring life in his small sleepy Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town while falling into a forbidden romance.”
So can this one successfully combine the two genres of both tender romantic fiction and supernatural drama? Will both me and my sweetie like it? Oooohh!! Most importantly… will it just plain be any darn good? Just one way for you to find out o’ Gentle Visitor, and that’s to “Read On”…. 😉
Time for this wee movie lovin’ Catgirl to put all my crazy personal drama behind me and get back to what I do best. Watch goofy horror movies from all those odd foreign places practically nobody has ever heard about here in the good ol’ US of A. Ohhh… and of course, tell all of you Gentle Visitors to my personal lil’ Litterbox all about them… 😉 This time out we take a look see at the recent Malay horror effort “Sembunyi: Amukan Azazil”.
Here’s the quick synopsis: “Aishah (Diana Danielle) is a young woman living during the Japanese Occupation of Malaya, who, after being knocked unconscious while escaping from the clutches of the Japanese Army, wakes up in a quiet, sleepy village, seemingly untouched by the war. The villagers give her shelter and she begins a new life there. But soon it becomes clear that the village hides other secrets as well. Aishah is haunted by the presence of a young deformed girl whom no one else can see and she discovers that an unknown evil lurks in the surrounding woods nearby the village, an ancient creature that makes the villagers its prey, a demon known only as Azazil. The villagers keep an uneasy peace with the demon through offerings but the moment Aishah enters the village, the attacks inexplicably begin again.”
Hmmmm… period setting… naughty Japanese invaders… a “Brigadoon” kind of secret village… and a man eating Demon!! Looks like the sort of goofy fun this Catgirl Princess can get behind. Sound like another odd lil’ film you wanna hear about? Why that happens to be just what this wee Catgirl’s all about… lucky for you!! So all you gotta do is just “Read On” to find out if it’s just gotta be a “must see” on your list as well… 😉
Yep… Father’s Day is coming up, and recent events have only reminded this wee Catgirl that no matter what…. come blizzards… hurricanes… killer bees… alien invasion… the “heartbreak of psoriasis”… or even the dreaded “Zombie Apocalypse”… my Dad will always love “his little girl” and always have my back no matter what shit finally decides to hit the fan. Yep… my Dad is officially my Hero… 🙂
I think that’s the way every daughter feels about her Dad… and I’d like to think all we daughters occupy that special place in their heart that would make them risk absolutely anything for us. So it’s fitting I suppose to share this lil’ bit of Youtube goodness that I ran across the other day with you Gentle Visitors in order to celebrate the Holiday in proper “Litterbox” style, one of the finalists in the 2013 Australian “Tropfest” short film festival, “Cargo”. Try to watch it and not cry… this wee Catgirl dares you… sniff, sniff!!
It’s been a long weekend away at my parents place in California… possibly the most dreaded… most nerve wracking weekend I’ve ever anticipated spending anywhere. But it’s finally over, and I’m back at my cozy lil’ apartment where I can relax in the quiet reality that this place is mine. All mine… Well…. mine and Carolyn’s…
So, now that we’re safely back at “La Casa De Neko”, those of you who are regular Gentle Visitors here at the old Litterbox are probably wondering just how my parents reacted to my “Big News”. So here it goes…
Pssst!!… That’s the hint… Yep… Time to “Read On” for all the details. 😉
Well… it’s finally time. Just one more day until Carolyn and I both take a few days off from our respective jobs to fly out to California to visit my parents and I tell them about us… Yeah. I really can’t really figure out which I dread the most, the flight out there (I just hate flying…. another quirky thing of mine… ) or the whole idea of taking that deep breath and introducing my parents to my sweet Carolyn and actually saying something along the lines of: “Mom, Dad… I’d like you to meet my girlfriend… Ummm… Surprise!!… “ Every fiber of my being is so on edge the closer we come to that big event.
Everything is taken care of. My Sous Chef Shéryfa has stepped up to handle things at the restaurant while I’m away, and I’ve done all the stuff I need to do to let things work in my absence. Sam will stop by the apartment to feed and check on Ting-ting (and yes, scoop my lil’ kitty’s box on a regular basis… 😉 ). So….. I guess we’re all good. (Even if it doesn’t feel all that good….)
Anyway… given all that, I’ll be away from things here at the Litterbox til at least this coming Monday. If my parents don’t freak out and set the villagers to chasing us out of town with pitchforks and torches, that is…
It’s times like this that having a strong instinctual side can be such a pain. My rational mind says this won’t possibly end up being as bad as my instincts are telling me it could be… but I still feel like bolting for the hills anyway. Good or bad I’ll be soooo damn happy when this is over and done with…
So Gentle Visitors… keep your fingers crossed for lil’ ol’ me, I’m soooo in need of all the luck I can beg, borrow, or steal right about now.
