Yep… it’s that time of year again Gentle Visitors… Time for all things creepy and weird to take over the life and attention of your Favorite Catgirl. There will be candy… mischievous Tricks…. and of course sweet Treats aplenty…… for yours truly and those special people in her life. I know things have seemed a bit sparse here of late, but I’ve never failed yet to celebrate my favorite holiday with a certain whimsical style all my very own and I’m definitely not going to start now…. Oh, no indeed!!
Wanna here what’s been stealin’ away all my time these last few weeks? Wondering what sorts of fun I might just be planning for the weeks to come as I count down to that bewitching night of nights? Why then what are we waiting for? Let’s get to it!!
Ahhhhh Fall. As the weather shifts from the sultry days of sunny Summer and the leaves turn their colors and begin to fall from the trees, this wee lady always seems to get stuck with so darn many things that clamor and beg for my attention. Every year, as our local colleges fill back up for the start of their Semesters, I’m always practically buried with responsibilities at work. It never fails…. 😦
Yep. We always seem to shift our kitchen staff right around then… losing some people and needing to hire new ones, and this year has been about the same, my “second-in-command” being one of them this time out. Laura, our second chef, has been handling most of the daytime duties here at the restaurant ever since I moved into the Kitchen Manager’s position, but as she’s gotten married early last year, it was only a matter of time before a child would come along and force her to take “extended maternity leave” leaving lil’ ol me as the only person capable of handling certain responsibilities again. Sigh……
She’s looking at spending a year or more with the baby when it arrives…. maybe more if her hubby’s work lets her do it… before coming back to work. Naturally, although I’ll want her back, I’m going to have to find a suitable replacement to fill her shoes till then. I know I really need to do it…. but I’ve been dragging my little feet about interviewing people, filling the hours as best I can myself. Truth is…. this is the part of my job I dislike the most…. being a “manager”. Problem is, I’m much more comfy as a simple cook, working with the food, planning menus, ordering supplies and doing all the day-to-day plain ol’ “kitchen-y” stuff. But…. given that along with Laura being gone, we also need two new dishwashers, a couple of busboys and at least one more line cook for our busy weekend shifts, it’s obvious that I need to get past my aversion to this aspect of my job and interview some applicants. Sigh….
Even Carolyn is busier these days, with the college back open, her department is back in full swing meaning she’s gone weekdays from morning to well late in the afternoon rather than her more leisurely Summer schedule. That makes quality “Us Time” all that much more precious these days. I definitely find myself with lots less chances to kick back and watch movies of late… that’s for sure.
Still…. there’s Halloween coming up. Soon….. and my sweetie knows just what a goofy lil’ dweeb her girlfriend is for this particular holiday, so it’s a given that we’ll have to plan a suitable bit of cosplay fun for the occasion. Carolyn hasn’t asked what I’m thinking of yet… and I’m certain she’s equal parts excited as well as a bit worried just what silly outfit I’ll want her to wear this year, Hehehe!! Now…. although I plan to keep her in the dark for a week or so more… you Gentle Visitors are special case… and always privy to the workings of my goofy lil’ mind. 😉
I’m really letting my lil’ brain wander a bit this year… hoping inspiration will strike and give me yet another nice “theme” costume for Carolyn and I so she’ll be able to fully enjoy the evening with me. So far though, I’m coming up a bit dry. Not to worry though, I’m certain I’ll think of something and when I do, you’ll be the first to know… 😉
Hmmmm? Let’s see…. what else this time out? Ahhhh yes. Our usual “review-a-thon” for October. This year, I thought the zombies could have a break and I’d give the Ghosts a chance to scare us silly. So get ready for the whole lot…. some Long Haired ghosts…. a few banshees…. and plenty of unquiet spirits thirsting for revenge from beyond the grave…. Yep. That ought to do it. 😉
Anyway…. that’s about all for now. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to actually find the time to carry it through. keep your fingers crossed and say a lil’ prayer for this wee Catgirl, and who knows? Halloween miracles do happen…. 😉
