Now that 2012 has rolled around, your Favorite Catgirl has made herself a few New Year’s Resolutions…. and one of them is to spend a bit more time here at the Litterbox posting more new stuff and generally getting more involved with things I’ve managed to let slip away from me in the hectic year that has passed.
So… given that I already share some of the details of my boring lil’ life with you in my “Diary”…. and the tasty creations of my kitchen experiments… as well as the Reviews of my goofy obsession with films both exotic and obscure (at least in my particular part of our big ol’ world…), it made me scratch my lil’ noggin when it came to what else we might just get up to here.
Then it hit me. I spend oodles of my time in the quest to actually find my video goodies…. and so probably do many of you. You hear about a film… maybe you are lucky enough to get a look at a poster or some pre-production art or stills. But the ultimate thing has to be when you first get a peek at the Trailer for one of those “coming soon to a theater nowhere near you” movies you just know you are gonna have to score the Internet to find.
But…. what if some goofy Catgirl was willing to do all the tedious initial scouting for you? Find those tasty Trailers for you… pounce on them… pacify them…. proudly drag them home like a dead mousy for you to enjoy? Sounds…. well… OK… sort of gross…. but also darn useful too, Hehehe.
Anyway… starting now, and I hope on a fairly regular basis, I’m going to gather those Trailers here, collected from the depths of the far flung Internet to give you a early “heads-up” about the DVD’s your Favorite Catgirl’s gonna soon be hunting for…. and hopefully reviewing. Wonder what the first films I’m itching to see are? Then by all means… stop by the concession stand, grab some popcorn, and let’s all take a look, shall we?
Looks like it’s gonna be the “Year of the Zombies” here in 2012. Seems only fair then, to give our flesh chomping brain eating friends the first post here in “Neko’s Trailer Park”.
First to catch my eye this new year was the flashy… and somewhat racy… new Trailer for Taiwan’s upcoming take on the Zombie Apocalypse, “Zombie 108”. Looks suitably icky and good in that “zombie-licious” way that this wee Catgirl likes.
Our synopsis for it goes: “The nuclear disaster that Japan suffered accidentally alters the genes of the influenza virus. A group of young people got infected and haven’t paid any attention to their illness, until a one of them surprisingly bites a girl’s throat, on a drunken night out. Their friends start screaming at the gushing blood. After a virus event, the government orders to quarantine the sick and evacuate all residents in the vicinity. Meanwhile, the army and the police join to form an team to enter the quarantined zone. However, those survivors suddenly become zombies to attack the living. In no time, the whole city is awash bloodshed. People from all walks of life, including gangsters, policemen and the civilians must to work together to escape seemingly, but in fact they have hidden schemes to compete with and even kill each others. The thing most tested when doomsday arrives, is the human mind.”
Slated for a March theatrical release, I expect to find the DVD floating around by late summer. Crossing my wee paws for luck!!
Next up, the Zombie plague heads to Russia… in “Meteletsa” aka “Winter of the Dead”, a new film finally ready for theatrical release after a few tantalizing glimpses have surfaced over the last few months to tease me.
It’s synopsis reads like this: “The Russian Winter is a terrible thing…… especially if it arrives in mid-July. Konstantin – a Moscow journalist, hides from the onslaught with the daughter of a local tycoon in a hardware store. Captain Igor Knyazev kranks up the only working tank, whilst his lover, Dasha is running away from her angry husband, who has learned of the pair’s betrayal, and wants revenge, regardless of the weather … Faced with horrifyingly gripping news material, a dedicated cameraman, Vlad, captures the strange events on video as priest Father Michael gets out his trusty axe … Out amidst the icy storm, something raises its hideous head – a Russian zombie – senseless and merciless!”
Then… it’s off to Peru for “Zombie Dawn”… a good old “zombies vs. army guys” shoot-em-up. No release date yet, but the stuff I’ve seen makes me think this one will probably pop up and surprise me on DVD before I ever hear where it’s been theatrically. Just has that kind of vibe for me….
The synopsis: “2006. A mysterious incident at a remote mining facility unleashes a zombie horde with an appetite for human flesh. It decimates large portions of the cities and countryside. The only course of action is to rapidly enclose the infected areas and seal them off from the rest of the remaining, living population. Now. 15 years later the tattered remains of the government and the mining corporation responsible where the initial event took place commit themselves to finding out what may have happened at the mining complex. The solution is to covertly send in a group of mercenaries and scientists into the quarantined zone to find answers.”
Next… for those of you wanting more comedy to go along with your flesh munching cannibalism, we have the Dutch entry to 2012’s Zombie onslaught… “Zombibi”. Weird… goofy looking, and with more than a wee bit of “Shawn of the Dead” goes to Turkey about it, it certainly looks fun… if your idea of fun is as somewhat twisted as mine. (Don’t worry… there are a lot of us out here, so you aren’t alone….)
The synopsis goes: “The bizarre story takes place in Amsterdam-West, where a meteor borne virus turns people into bloodthirsty zombies. Although much blood is flowing and many limbs chopped off, there is a lot to laugh at in this bizarre horror comedy.”
Got a feeling I’m going to have to track this one down on Region 2 somewheres…. 😉
Think we are finished? Nope… not quite yet. Seems even Cuba wants in on the fun with their new one “Juan of the Dead”. Sound familiar? Yep… seems our filmmakers want to out do the Hindi film industry by taking quirky cult hit “Shawn” and putting it through the ol’ “cultural blender” to see what happens. Hey… you never know. Just might end up being pretty good…. or at least amusingly bad in that special way I like.
All this of course leads up to the big budget bit of Zombie War goodness that should be “World War Z” later this year. No Trailer for that one yet… but lots of fake ones floating around, d’ohh!! But I’ll keep lookin’….
Till then, keep your own eyes peeled, and if you find any more, why then just chime right in… this wee Catgirl’s always looking for a good sneak peak of “Coming Attractions”…. 😉
