Well… Christmas has come and gone as December quickly fades away taking 2011 right along with it. Soon a brand spankin’ new year will be here to replace it, but before then, your Favorite Catgirl has actually managed to sneak aside a couple more days off to relax and bask in the glow of all the things that have made the Holidays special for her.
Oh, yes… and that also means it’s “Diary Time” again for all my regular Gentle Visitors so you can catch up on the life of this lil’ Catgirl…. So… sit back, get comfy, pour yourself a steamy cup of cocoa, and make yourselves at home. Oh…. and of course, by all means “Read On”…. 😉
It’s been a long month here at “La Chambre de la Princesse Magique Petite de Chaton” with lots to keep yours truly busy, busy, busy. Work is never easy for me near any major Holiday, but somehow I always manage to survive with my wits and sanity intact. Sometimes it’s a near thing…. but surprisingly this year I managed to get through it all with a minimum of stress for a change. That’s allowed me some much desired time to lavish on the things and people who are special to me, most notably my dearest Carolyn and her wonderful sister Sandra’s family.
Rather than our usual quick lil’ overnighter that normally is all I can spare for the Holiday, we actually got to spend Christmas Eve, all of Christmas Day and half of Monday with them this time out. It was dreamy and wonderful and felt just perfect being a part of it all. Even thinking about it now, I’m still filled with a warm and indescribably happy feeling at the way they’ve accepted me into their lives not just as “Carolyn’s special friend” but as family… in every way that actually matters. It’s a special gift that means more to me than anything I might ever find wrapped in pretty paper beneath a Christmas tree. 🙂
We got to leave early on Saturday after a quick check at the restaurant to see that all was squared away for us to be closed for the weekend… the first time we’ve ever done that, but with Christmas Day being a Sunday this year there really wasn’t much reason to open Saturday at all. I know the rest of the staff was happy for the extra time off, but I had promised to drop by early that morning to see to some party platters we’d done specially for a regular customer got picked up. Luckily for me, they were right on time and after that Carolyn and I hit the road for the long drive to her sister’s place.
The weather stayed good and although there was some snow, we had a much easier trip than last year, mostly I think because we actually got to do the trip in the daytime rather than at night in that hypnotic swirling of driving snow we experienced then. We got to the city just after noon and actually got the chance for a little “us time” with a bit of shopping and some lunch at a cute little Thai restaurant. Mmmmm… Pad Thai. Not to mention some killer Peanut Chicken and Red Curry sauce. I’ve always loved how Christmas dining-out always seems to be Asian… It was so yummy and good that I was certain I’d spoiled my appetite and wouldn’t be eating much for dinner at Sandra’s. But I was soooo wrong.
Once we got to the house, Sandra had dinner well and truly in hand, excited by the idea of actually having both of us for dinner this year. She’d gone all out too…. a big ol’ glazed and herbed Pork Roast, potatoes, steamed broccoli and oodles of rich cheddar sauce to smother it. Ahhhhh and apple pies…. My sweet Carolyn can’t cook to save her life, but her little sister is a whiz in the kitchen and pretty soon while Carolyn, Allan, and the kids got comfy in the living room, I got drafted to help out with the final touches.
It was a great dinner and there was no way I couldn’t eat like I’d never eaten before in my life. I now know exactly why Carolyn is so hopeless in the kitchen…. all that skill originally destined to be hers somehow got kept aside and added to the share her lil’ sister had been blessed with by the “Kitchen Fairies”. I had a great time helping her out… and she’s definitely got “the touch”. Afterward, it continued to be a wonderful evening with all of us chatting and laughing in front of the fire. Maddy and Adam were so darn excited that we’d all get to go skating on Christmas Day together… although I was still a bit apprehensive about the whole thing. My “practice sessions” over the last week or so had been less than successful at getting me ready for this… there were one or two black-and-blue marks on some rather tender portions of my anatomy to testify to my lack of any real aptitude in this particular winter sport. But the kids were both super excited…. and how could “Aunt Miyuki” disappoint them by being a party pooper? Nope…. wasn’t going to be an option. 😉
All that food finally kicked in along with the warmth of that cheery fire and the after-dinner wine we all sipped… and I just kept getting drowsier and drowsier until finally Carolyn had to poke me awake long enough for us to head off to bed. Once there… we snuggled in close and let ourselves drift away to sleep.
Morning came, and I awoke still cuddled in Carolyn’s warm embrace. I just love waking up like that. One thing I was ever so glad to discover about Carolyn once we became lovers is that she, too, is a “Cuddler”…. If you are one… like this little Catgirl most definitely is… it’s sooo nice to share that with somebody who also likes the warmth and loving intimacy of cuddling. Cuddling most definitely takes two active participants. It’s intoxicating. The soft feeling of her arms around me, the scent of her, the tickle of her hair on my cheek, and the impossibly intimate tangle we somehow manage to find ourselves in…. all without knowing exactly how we did it. It always gives me such tender, almost aching, contentment to be right there… all safe, warm, and loved. If you, Gentle Visitors, haven’t ever experienced this…. you soooo need to… you really, really do. Honestly. You just don’t know what you are missing. Sigh….
Once it got light… I could hear the rest of the family stirring and figured it was time we should join them, so after a few soft lil’ kisses behind her ear, I managed to wake Carolyn up and get us moving. Morning was spent opening presents, including some adorably cute fuzzy pink leopard spotted slippers for lil’ ol’ me from Maddy and Adam. They got used immediately… as the fire had burned down and the wooden floors were darn cold that morning. I managed to make both of them happy in return as well… with a copy of “Dead Island” for Adam to get his Zombie killing game on. It’s more violent than Sandra usually lets his video gaming experience be, but all young red blooded American boys like killing zombies…. and as “Aunt Miyuki” I get some slack to be a little naughty and indulgent that way…. definitely making me the “cool aunt” he’ll brag to all his school friends all about, Hehehe…. Now Maddy… I knew exactly what she’d like and I was right on the money with a sweet little cropped black leather biker jacket for her. It was probably a bit pricey, but I just knew she’d look cute as a button in it. She was taller than last year (don’t kids just grow like weeds), but luckily for me I’d already gotten her measurements from Sandra around Thanksgiving so it fit perfectly.
We gave Sandra and her husband a set of nice crystal stemware for their dinner parties and in return they gifted us with a fancy expresso machine. Mmmmmm…. coffee!! Yay!! Now me…. I got Carolyn a pretty sky blue silk Tai Chi uniform and sash to replace the sweatpants and tee combos she’s been wearing to our Martial Art classes. She looks really great in it too…. just like I knew she would. In return, Carolyn got me a lovely Norwegian wool sweater, all nubbly and warm and smelling of lanolin… 1 size bigger than me, just the way I like them. Not too shabby….. 🙂
Later that day we did get to go skating too. OMG…. I was absolutely horrible at it, but even so, it was still loads of fun. It was just so darn sweet the way the kids both wanted to help Carolyn tow me about the ice, Maddy and Carolyn each holding my hands and Adam following around behind me waiting to catch me every time I looked like I was ready to crash. Good thing I’m a tiny lil’ lady…. By the time we were done I’d just about gotten the hang of staying upright, but boy were my legs tired from the strain.
One more nice family dinner followed that evening…. along with a marathon of Zombie killing on the X-box for us all… (Just gotta love the togetherness created by a good Zombie Apocalypse). Eventually bedtime put an end to that…. but not all the warm happy feelings we both were feeling…. and in our warm and cozy bed, Carolyn and I celebrated those in our own special intimate way till well after midnight snuck up on us.
Next morning we all got an early start going out together for a family breakfast before we reluctantly hit the road back home. All in all it was a most relaxing, joyful, and fun visit. If I hadn’t needed to be back for work Tuesday, I would definitely have enjoyed letting it last even longer. I’m liking this sort of “family time”…. I’m liking this a lot. Strange for such a usually solitary kitten like lil’ ol’ me….
Anyway…. that’s been my Christmas this year…. soon it’ll be New Years Eve again, and then another birthday sneaks up on me, but till then at least I’ve got plenty of wonderful memories to keep me warm and cozy while the snow falls outside.
And don’t worry…. I’ll be certain to tell you all about it. Till then, “Merry Christmas Everyone” and “Meow, meow, for now!!”
