The days get shorter, shadows deepen… the nights get cooler, and the leaves are turning a riot of colors right before my eyes so I know that it’s coming…. Halloween is almost upon us! Naturally… although this lil’ Catgirl just aches to unleash her wee “inner kitten”, Life these days, just seems determined to keep me all busy with my very “grown-up” responsibilities to the exception of all else. But… where’s the fun in that?
I’ve fallen back a bit on my posting of new reviews…. as most of my Gentle Visitors will have noticed. Sigh…. I always mean well even if I do usually fall short of my ambitious goals… but worry not, I’m still plugging away at finding time to write them, so we should get a few more in before Halloween is upon us. Ahhhh…. and what other silly things is your Favorite Catgirl up to? Only one way to know…. 😉
My costume planning proceeds in a satisfactory fashion even if all my precious free time seems to be getting as short these days as daylight itself. More staff problems at the restaurant…. and as always, it’s poor lil’ me that ends up taking up the slack. Carolyn is busier these days too now that college is back in session which makes for us wanting to share what time together that we have for some quality “us time” rather than on individual hobbies. So strange…. it’s amazing just how much your life gets tangled up when you live with somebody full-time. Still… I wouldn’t trade what we have for my old life as a “single girl”…. nope… not at all.
Part of what’s kept me busy outside of work is that we’ve been doing a couple nights lately at the gym this last week or so…. getting back in shape for whatever Martial Art class we finally decide upon. There’s a lot of choices available… more than I would have guessed. There’s Karate… (but all that board breaking and yelling is just not what I’m psyched for…), Aikido… (which sounds sort of cool, but it’s awfully “close contact” for me), Judo… (not really appealing to either Carolyn or me), Kickboxing… (Carolyn’s secret fav, I think…. but awfully intimidating sounding to this petite Catgirl), Tai Chi… (which I’ve already had some exposure to and liked, not to mention it has a sword style… something I really, really want to learn), and…. if we really want to go crazy serious… Wushu classes (certainly the most “Kung-Fu” of our options… but the one that sounds the most demanding overall with both hand-to-hand stuff as well as weapons).
Now….. here’s one of the problems that can happen when your lover also happens to be your best friend…. She doesn’t mean to do it… but sometimes… Carolyn ignores her own “wants” in preference to trying to decide what would please lil’ ol’ me the most. More so than with any other lover I’ve ever had. It is sweet…. but awfully annoying at times to have to almost drag out of her what she’d like to do for fun. Especially when I’d probably have as much enjoyment doing whatever it is she likes as I would some activity of mine. Couple that with her unconscious desire to “protect” me from harm and I often find her passing on something she thinks just might result in me getting a wee bit banged up. Darn it!! I’m not made of glass…. I’m just smaller than your average “warrior princess”. Although the idea of sparring and such against an actual opponent does make me nervous, if that sort of thing appeals to Carolyn then I’m more than willing to give it a shot. I’m “spunky”…. honest I am!! I just hope there’s a lot of introductory stuff before we actually get around to that sort of thing…. 😉
Sigh… at least my costuming work for us is coming along nicely. As I expected, Carolyn gave me a bit of a look when I suggested that she might compliment my Wuxia costume by dressing up as Cammy from “Street Fighter”. One look at Cammy’s usual attire… that one piece swimsuit with sparring gloves, combat boots and beret…. and she almost choked on the cookie she was eating at the time as she gasped out “Miyu!! You really want me to wear something like that for Halloween?”
I laughed… and teased… and reminded her just how much she liked Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue… and if Kylie could do it, well… Hehehehe. Yep… deep down she wanted to do it… I just knew she did, even if she didn’t. She’ll really look great too, she has the hair, the eyes, and the very lean athletic and sexy frame to really pull it off. I’ve dug out her beret from a couple of years ago… a trip to the nearby Army/ Navy store found her some snazzy combat boots, and I lucked out and found the perfect one piece swimsuit in woodland camouflage for her. Still working on her gloves, but I’ll sort that out…. trust me!!
Now… for my costume, I’ve found my wig!! A white cosplay wig some 120cm in length. It’ll hang down way past my butt, halfway down my legs, and look just absolutely perfect. I’ve already got my sword, of course…. 😉 But so far I’m stymied for a gown to go with it. I’ve found tons of inspiration for the Bride’s “look” online, but in almost every case, any suitable gown had been priced waaaay outside any reasonable budget.
There seems to be two schools of thought regarding the wardrobe of the Bride… Firstly the ghostly look of her, almost completely in white as popularized by the movies starring Brigitte Lin as well as several Chinese TV series over the years, and then the look sported by Li Bingbing in “The Forbidden Kingdom” with her darker, more witch-like costume. Each has it’s charms… and I confess I’m torn as to which direction I should go.
The darker costume might be easier… especially if I decide to do a more “mystical and evil” version of the Bride. But… the lighter colored costume appeals more to my “inner heroine”… who sees the Bride as a tragically doomed and misunderstood “anti-heroine”. Ahhhh well… the days are passing quickly, so one way or another I’ll have to choose soon. Decisions, decisions…. 😉
Anyway… that’s my boring lil’ life this week, hopefully I’ll be getting back to a review tomorrow or the next day with a look at the latest Korean horror offering “The Cat”…. so till then, “Meow, meow, for now!!”
