Yay!! It’s vacation time! Let the “Happy Kitten Dance of Joy” commence!! 🙂
Starting this Friday, your Favorite Catgirl Princess is taking her first well deserved vacation in years…. a whole week away from the restaurant and all the usual annoying day to day responsibilities that go with it. Instead… at least for the weekend, Carolyn and I are off to the wilds of Vermont for a bit of camping and backpacking, just the way I used to do back in high-school and college.
This means of course, that I’ll be away from the ol’ “Litterbox” till late Monday if all goes well and Hurricane Irene doesn’t make life in the great outdoors too darn miserable that is. We almost changed our minds about going, but ultimately the idea of having some proper quality time together overwhelmed any fears of inclement weather and we decided to go for it despite the chance we’ll get rained out much of the weekend. Sam has promised to take lil’ Ting-ting for the Weekend and give her all the love, care, and attention she needs while her mommies are away….. I just can’t wait!!
Still… given that this is a first time out in the wild for Carolyn…. who despite being the more “sporty” of the two of us… has actually never been camping in her whole life. No kidding. So I’m going to have to take things easy on her….
Wanna know what’s in store for my sweetie and me? Then you’ll want to “Read On”…..
Yep… as hard to believe as it is, my sweet Carolyn has never been camping. I mean… she’s a dance student… she was a swimmer and a cheerleader waaaay back in high-school, played softball, volleyball, and basketball, but never, ever got to go camping as a girl. Heck…. even I managed that despite not ever being a Girl Scout or anything. Given this, I backed away from my original plan to go tent camping in favor of taking a trip to Vermont’s Silver Lake where I’ve been before and where I knew we could “rough it” in style, spending a couple of days in one of the Lean-to shelters available for free to visitors to the primitive camping site near the old artificial lake above nearby Lake Dunmore. Waaaay back at the turn of the century, there was a luxury hotel on the site that burned down, leaving behind the artificial lake and a pen-stock feeding a power station. It’s a lil’ known secret… as most people do the more “touristy” thing across the highway at the State Park itself, leaving the pristine lil’ mountain lake nearly deserted. I stayed there with a group of friends back in the late 90’s on National Trails Day and was only one of three parties in the entire area. I’m told, that has changed little over the years.
Given such “luxurious” surroundings, we’ll be cozy as two lil’ kittens curled up in my old over-sized sleeping bag. It’ll allow two regular sized adults to sleep all comfy and close, so it ought to be plenty roomy for one petite lil’ lady and her loving BFF to enjoy a bit of “friendly snuggling” for a couple of nights. I’ve planned to stock us up on some yummy camp food and refreshments, and given that the place is within a 20 minute hike from where we’ll leave our car in the protection of the Rangers at the State Park, we should have time for oodles of fun exploring the miles of hiking trails up the nearby mountains for a couple of days. Sigh…. there’s one particular lookout I really want to show Carolyn off the side of nearby Mt. Moosalamoo which I climbed once before on my last trip here. It was this amazing near vertical drop some 1600 feet or so that let you look out over the Green Mountains for what seemed like forever….
Also… I’m keeping it down to just this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and having us drive back home early next Monday morning. That ought to give us three more quiet days at home to enjoy as well, doing whatever strikes our fancy before getting back to work on Friday. It all sounds like a lil’ piece of Heaven……
So don’t be too disappointed if I don’t post again here at the Litterbox till late next week. Just know that I’ll be having fun and recharging the ol’ batteries for what looks to be a busy Fall for this lil’ lady. Till then… “Meow, meow, for now!!”
