Almost the end of the month… and 2011 is just around the corner, but there’s still just enough time for this lil’ Catgirl to squeeze in just a tiny bit more Holiday Cheer before the New Year’s festivities arrive.
Been a quiet month here at the ol’ Litterbox, and your Favorite Catgirl owes you more than a few new Reviews, but as you know by now, I’m often more than a bit flaky about keeping up things when the “Real World” gets hectic and crazy for me. Really, really sorry ’bout that…. honest, Gentle Visitors…… Hopefully I’ll get the chance to do some more new stuff soon…. but probably not until the new year rolls around and lets me breathe again.
Still… I did have some “personal time” over the Holiday, along with a quick trip to Carolyn’s Sister’s place for some “family time”, and I know you all wanna know how my Christmas went, so without further adieu, here’s a peek at what went on for me!
Much as I figured, we didn’t get all that much time to do the whole Christmas thing. Carolyn had oodles of free time away from her job, but she’s come to understand that my time is always limited around almost any holiday (Booooo!!) and that despite wanting to share more with her, I’m always going to end up working extra hard then. As it was, we couldn’t leave for Sandra’s until late in the day on Christmas Eve itself. We lucked out this time out and didn’t have the snowstorm that we got last year so the journey was much quicker. We actually managed to get to Sandra’s before 10 PM and spent a bit of time with her and her husband sharing hot cocoa and gossip before heading to bed. Ohhh!! And to go with the cocoa, some of the yummy Christmas Cookies your Favorite Catgirl spent all her spare time whipping up all last week just for the occasion. Chocolate chips… macaroons… sugar cookies… gingerbread men… you name it, I baked it!
A lot of the conversation eventually turned, as I sort of expected it would, towards Carolyn’s visit over Thanksgiving and her desire to finally tell her Mom and Dad about our relationship. Sandra admitted she was ambivalent about the whole idea… she loves and accepts Carolyn, but knows her Mom enough to know what sort of problems telling her would inevitably cause. Something any daughter worth her salt would want to avoid…. Allan was trying his best to be accepting, but I could sense that he’d rather have been discussing just about anything else other than this….. Things went round and round…. and like most thorny notions….. never ended up getting close to a solution. I reminded her just how absolutely impossible telling my parents would be….. Her situation has pretty much convinced me of that when I even consider the idea for myself. Luckily for us, it was getting late and we were able to plead exhaustion from our trip and be shown off to bed…..
Once there… I was struck by the memories of last time we slept in that bed last Christmas, and couldn’t resist teasing Carolyn just a wee bit by asking her softly, in my most innocent of voices, “So… Ahhhh?… Ummmm?… When your parents were here for Thanksgiving…. You don’t suppose they slept here in the guest room, do you? Right here where you and I made love last year? You don’t suppose they actually… ummm…. you know…….”
I felt her freeze for a moment nearly in shock… then she smacked me hard on my bottom and gasped out, “Oh, God!… Miyuki!!! I swear…. now I’ll never get that image out of my head… ever. Thank you very much for that, you goof.”. I giggled, hugged her super close, and told her we’d better see if they’d ruined things and stolen all those “sexy vibes” we’d left behind last year. Even though she swore at me, it wasn’t hard to convince her that… after all… we had been there first and it was our special lil’ love nest. Apparently my joke hadn’t completely traumatized her either….. and it wasn’t long before we made very certain all the “sexy vibes” were still very much intact.
The next morning we awoke early and the kids were up as well, along with Sandra and Allan doing the whole Christmas gifting frenzy. There were more DVD’s for lil’ ol’ me from Maddy and Adam…. and I managed to wow them with a neat Region Free DVD player I’d picked up on Amazon and a selection of nifty foreign discs to test drive it out. Sandra gave me the nicest wool fisherman’s sweater… warm and cozy and just a wee big big for me…. just the way I like them!! Carolyn gave me a brand new…… cellphone….. Yep. Seems she really wants to bring me into the 21’st century and be able to reach out and touch me at any moment of the day… whether I like it or not. Sigh…. At least it means she truly misses me when we’re not together. (But now lil’ me has to actually learn how to use the darn thing…. d’ohh!!)
Oh well…. I gave Carolyn a new laptop… speedier and zippier than the one she already has and loaded it full of her favorite music and programs…. She had been complaining about the one she had being such an old dinosaur, so it was something I knew she could use. (And….. hidden away in the carrying bag, a sweet little silver keepsake locket with our pictures in it so she’d always be able to know I was with her, now and forever… Almost took me forever to trick her into finding it…. )
We had a nice Christmas dinner…. but before we knew it, the day slipped away and we had to make our goodbyes. Unfortunately I had to work early Sunday so we couldn’t linger as much as we wanted. All in all though, it was a nice time spent with some wonderfully warm people…. and I think the most touching moment of all was when Maddy thanked me for the DVD player with an enthusiastic spontaneous hug and actually called me “Aunt Miyuki”….. Apparently I’m now officially part of the family, and that feels so nice.
Sigh…. Anyway, that’s how things went this year… and like as not we’ll get another invite the next time a Holiday rolls around, so I guess I’d better get comfy now that I gone from “footloose single lady” to “part of the family”. Somehow, I’m thinking that’s not going to be all that hard to get used to……
Next time out, more movies….. I promise, and until then “Happy Holidays and Meow, meow, for now!!”
