Week 3… doesn’t the time just fly sometimes? Halloween is just around the corner, but I’m still plugging away here at the ol’ Litterbox with our Zombie Movie Festival… and you can expect a “Nekolishous” review in the next day or so for the trashy, but oh so fun lookin’ Japanese zombie farce “Big Tits Zombie” just in this week from the UK. Carolyn’s gonna just shake her head and mumble “Miyuki!! Dear goodness…. You’ve just got to be kidding…” Hehehehe!! Nope, my precious sweetheart…. I’m not.
We’ve also got George Romero’s latest zombie film, “Survival of the Dead” on my “to watch” list, and if there’s time “Oh, My Zombie Mermaid!” just to really round things out.
My cunning cosplay plans for Halloween continue as well!! I’ve done all the initial “research”… looked through all my old costuming stuff, and started shopping for some new things both on the Internet as well as at local stores with Sam’s help. It’s really coming together nicely too.
As always, I’m filled with a nervous excited energy and it’s become somewhat infectious, with Sam really getting into the spirit as well… Carolyn knows she’s gonna be doing something with us… just not exactly what…. and it’s got her curious (and maybe a little worried) as to just what my devious little mind has in store for the evening’s festivities.
She knows me pretty well… and my perchance for wanting to be just a wee bit naughty and daring in my costume choices, so thank goodness she can be just as much a tease as me at times. She can always be nudged into being a lil’ bit more daring than her usual “comfort zone” as long as I’m right there with her. I’m pretty certain she wont be disappointed either.
But by now, you probably wanna know what’s the plan, right? Then, all you have to do is just “Read On” and see what sneaky lil’ me has planned for us so far….
“The Brides of Dracula”…. a true movie classic. Also one I’ve never done for cosplay, given as it takes three women rather than just lil’ ol’ me alone. We’ve all seen them in sooooo many Vampire movies over the years… but how much did you really pay attention to the details of the myth? Probably not very much… most of you naughty guys just remember them as bosomy, sexy vixens who were mostly on board to give the film a little risqué eye candy (and possibly that ever so important “R” rating…). Luckily… there’s always Wikipedia for a quick overview: “The Brides of Dracula are fictional characters in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. They are three seductive female vampires who live with Count Dracula in his castle in Transylvania, where they entrance male humans with their beauty and charm, and then proceed to feed upon them. Dracula provides them with victims to feed upon, mainly infants and children.
Like Dracula, they are the living dead, repulsed by religious objects. In chapter three of the novel, two are described as dark haired and the other as blonde, though some film adaptations depict them as blonde, brunette and redhead. Although the three vampire women in Dracula are popularly referred to as the “Brides of Dracula”, they are never referred to as such in the novel; whether they are married to Dracula or not is never mentioned. Commonly all three brides appear, though some film adaptations show fewer than three. They are typically depicted as enchantingly beautiful young women, coquettish and seductive in manner, often appearing to men like succubi in the night, dressed in flowing silk nightgowns and behaving in a wild and sexually aggressive manner.”
There we go… as simple and succinct as one might want. So now we know the history…. and luckily, Carolyn is a blonde! Helpful, since she’s not really the type to enjoy a wig or any seriously uncomfortable or intricate costume choices. Last year getting her to wear an eye-patch was a bit of a test of my negotiating skills. (Only telling her it made her look all sexy and dangerous… along with some serious sweet talk got her to put up with it…. even though in the end I think she enjoyed the scandalous effect it had on people.) If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to talk her into having her hair styled for this….. my treat of course!! Sam has nice long brown hair and a really thin face with high cheekbones and a very slavic nose, the gift of a Polish/ American ancestry. With the right styling I’m thinking she’ll be perfect too…. Which just leaves me. Luckily, I found the perfect reddish wig just the other day to give me a certain feral, different look. I’m thinking that with my pale skin tone and dark, Asian eyes I’ll be able to make it work great for me. I may even get some colored contacts too, but I’ve never liked the feel of them floating about in my eyes, so I’m still waffling on this idea…. even though the thought of having green eyes sounds intriguing.
So…. on to clothing. From all the images I’ve been able to locate, the Brides always seem to be dressed not in black like Elvira, but mostly in pure white diaphanous gowns like death shrouds crossed with nightgowns. It usually gives them this ethereal ghostly look rather than a goth thing. Sort of an Undead “Bride With White Hair” vibe…..
I’m particularly drawn to the “eastern arabesque” style of costumes seen in “Van Helsing” and the Gary Oldman version of “Dracula”…. so pretty and sooo darn sexy too. Both Carolyn and I have lots of rich looking belly dance accessories like ankle bells and coin belts and beautiful patterned scarves from our Dance Class and they’ll help fill out such a look easily. (And it’ll give me an excuse to break down and buy a couple more pieces I’ve had my eye on…. and that’s never a bad thing, right? Hehehehe!! I’m such a naughty kitten at times…..)
As for a gown…. There’s a beautiful one I’ve been looking at… and I’m half convinced to grab it, even though it’s soooo decadently “period” that I’ll probably never wear it any time other than for masquerades or costume parties. (Mostly because it would make me look like the winsome heroine of a Harlequin Romance novel… which Carolyn might just appreciate occasionally come to think of it…)
So…. that’s it so far. I’d say our look is about 40% done…. and I’ll be even further along as stuff arrives in the mail later this week. Keep checkin’ back to see how it goes and a spooky “Meow, meow for now” o’ Gentle Visitors!!
