It’s just slipping by so darn fast. Too darn fast…. and as much as I try, it seems I’m always playing catch-up to stay with things I want to get done. So exactly what am I accomplishing? Guess you’ll have to “Read On” to find out.
Well… work of course is stealing away most of it. The recent closure of a couple other local restaurants this last year has resulted in a bit of a re-shuffle of hungry people looking for good food. My restaurant has picked up quite a bit of business as a result… nearly a 30% increase in daily traffic, especially now that the two local colleges are back in session. A good example of how it’s biting into my personal time was demonstrated to me just this last weekend.
As most of you regular visitors to the ol’ Litterbox know, this wee Catgirl has been awaiting the return of AMC TV’s “The Walking Dead” since season 3 wrapped up and this last Sunday was the “big day”…. the first episode of season 4 and all the new zombie story fun… so naturally it follows that a certain crazy lady would have made all the preparations to be snuggled up on the couch with her sweetheart… her kitty… and a goodly supply of tasty snacks and wine coolers… to catch all the gory zombie action as it happened, right? Ummmm… yeah…. well that was the plan.
Unfortunately for me, one of the colleges planned an alumni weekend to coincide with this last weekend’s celebration of Columbus Day figuring the extra day off that some people had for that would make for a better turnout overall. Oh yeah… it did. As a result, I got a frantic call early on Sunday afternoon from the restaurant’s owner begging me to give up my Sunday off to come in and back up Shéryfa and the crew who were absolutely swamped. Sigh… She’s a sweet hard working lady and always the first to do that little extra for me when I need it, so there was no way I could leave poor Shéryfa swinging in the wind like that. Even if it meant missing the premier of my favorite TV show…. and I figured I could catch it a day or so from then on “video-on-demand” once it became available.
But…. instead, I got a surprise. Later that evening… after a totally grueling shift, I got home all sweaty, smelly, and completely wiped out, ready for nothing but bed. I assumed Carolyn would already be tucked away for the evening, cozy and comfy by that time. But…. she was still awake, waiting for me to get there. AMC TV, you see, runs encore showings of “Walking Dead” later in the evening on Sunday and although we ordinarily watch the early one, my sweetie had gotten everything ready for us to still catch it when I finally made it home. ♡ My best friend in the whole world… my devoted lover… and now the person I’d want to survive the real “Zombie Apocalypse” with… What can I say? She’s my heroine…♡
Mind you… she did wrinkle her nose a bit after giving me a welcoming hug and encountered that funky smell I’d brought along home with me, but that was nothing that a quick shower couldn’t take care of to make me all suitably squeaky clean and worthy of snuggling once more. Then we sat through the episode together just like I’d planned from the start, all that zombie action keeping me from nodding off till the wee hours when it was over. I know Carolyn didn’t have to work the next morning, but it was still the sweetest thing to know she wanted to share one of my goofy obsessions with me.
As can be seen, my time has also prevented me from getting all the reviews I’ve wanted to do ready too. I’m hoping I’ll be able to do one for the Thai ghost story “Pee Mak” in the next day or so, but I’ve yet to even watch the movie, so it’s anybody’s guess as to whether or not I’ll manage it in a timely fashion. There are a couple other classic film reviews I’ll try to squeeze in and I wanted to try do one for the Stephen King haunted house mini-series “Rose Red”…. and I’d even thought about trying a “shared review” with fellow Stephen King fan Miss Novia Rozet over at Polychrome Interest, but of late her own schedule seems as crazy as mine so I’ve been reluctant to ask if she’d be up for it. (No worries Novia…. I can definitely understand living under a “time crunch” of late. Don’t worry… There’s always another time…. )
As for my efforts to finalize our Halloween cosplay plans, well that’s still coming along too, although I’m definitely worried if I can pull off my ambitious ideas the way I’d like. I’ve been picking up some things from the thrift store to accent the items I already have on hand. Carolyn and Sam are up for things… assuming I can pull it all together.
Make-up wise, Ive been prowling the internet for some inspiration for Meesha’s look. I want her to be a classic Anime inspired “Catgirl”…. but definitely more “girl” than “cat”. With the right face paint and makeup, I’m thinking my own Asian face will look exotic enough to make her look alien and wild, but in a subtle and sexy way that doesn’t make me look too odd. (Or too silly…) Something pretty and leopard spotted… with some shadowy highlights on my cheeks maybe. With my red vampire contacts and fangs, I ought to have that “dangerous kitty” look that I want if I can balance it right. More like the picture to the left…. but then I’m blown away by the appearance you can get without anything more than simple makeup if you go all the way too. Like the photo to the right. Decisions… decisions. What do you Gentle Visitors think?
Now for Carolyn and Sam… there’s no denying that any big honking complicated props… like that Gatling gun arm I envisioned for Miss Pettigrew… are probably waaaay out of the question. Just not enough time. Darn. I am certain that I want some pretty hats…. and I’ve some money tucked aside to buy them if I absolutely have to, but luckily Carolyn says she’s got a friend working in the Theater Department at her college who might just let me borrow some Victorian stuff from their costume storage. Oh yeah… I’m really looking forward to getting a peek at some of that stuff and I’ll definitely wait till I see it before spending away my budget.
Weapons wise, I’ll have my “Indiana Jones” whip coiled at my belt, but I’m thinking Meesha might just have to wield my Tai-Chi Phoenix sword too. It worked for Madam Vastra and Jenny as well as “The Bride With White Hair”… and if I don’t pull it out of it’s sheath at the party like a goofy dingbat, it ought to be safe enough. I mean what are the chances I’ll really end up skewering somebody accidentally? Sigh… my finely homed Instincts are whispering in my ear that it’s a bad idea and I’ve always trusted those Instincts…. Grrrrr!!!
I’ve settled on a look for Carolyn’s costume base too. Something similar to the picture to the right…. dark and “cat burglary” as would befit the character of Miss Evelyn Davenport, society debutant and notorious jewel thief. I’ll add a spiffy hat… and some cute granny glasses that I found at the thrift store. Ooooohhh!! And one of those little fake beauty mark patches for her right cheek. More “French Revolution” than Victorian I know… but I just think Carolyn will look soooo darn cute with a mole on her cheek…
Now all I need is to figure out the stuff I’ll need for Sam’s Steampunk bionic Maid…. Now that’ll be a challenge.
Well… I’ve got to go for now. Work calls and I’m due in in an hour or so… dang it. Till next week…. and hopefully in time… your favorite Catgirl wishes you all the best this scary holiday season, and “Meow, meow!!”
